Throughout the years we strived to diversify our activities to encourage empowerment in our members.
The activities carried out by the Association comprise:
Handicrafts
The association sought registration from the National Handicraft Promotion Agency (NHPA) since 1999, on its handicraft project as Cypres Handicraft, which is a small Manufacturing unit.
Cypres Handicraft is a craft workshop set up and managed by the handicapped persons; the workshop also helps underprivileged and handicapped persons to use their manipulative skills in designing new craft products.
The production activities comprise of the following:
- Wood work
- Embroidery
- Painting
Raw materials that are used are: Cyprus, Tecoma& Camphor wood, waste fabrics, coconut shells and other usable materials for production.
Cypres Handicapped Association puts its Workshop at the disposal of the disabled and underprivileged Location Plan, for apprenticeship in Woodwork, Coconut Jewellery Box, Printing and Painting; and its Day Care Centre Location Plan for Traditional Dolls, Textile and Embroidery.
Events
The association is dynamic and organises various events. Some of them include the launching of our first catalogue, the holding of Seminars, outings and workshops. We also take part in other events organised by government bodies like the carnival.
Women’s Wing
Having a bigger proportion of women and being motivated has led to the launching of our Women’s Wing in March 2003. We sought registration since 17th March 2000, and we were affiliated with the regional committee of the National Women Council since 17th April 2003.
Our Women’s Wing holds all its meetings & workshops in the Day Care Centre. The committee meets every fortnight and workshops are held three days per week.
The purpose of the women’s wing is to empower them to become autonomous and develop their entrepreneurial capabilities. They have thus being able to set up activities and workshops on:
- Sewing
- Embroidery
- Painting on cloths
- Packaging
- Talks and Seminars
